This medicine is also used for the long-term treatment of chest pain (angina pectoris). It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure. Metoprolol Tartrate is also used to prevent migraine.
Metoprolol Tartrate Tablet may also be taken in combination with other medicines to treat certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. Metoprolol Tartrate Tablet is used together with other antihypertensive agents to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure.
Beta-Adrenergic Blocker
Metoprolol Tartrate belongs to a class of medicines called Beta-Adrenergic Blocker. Beta adrenergic blockers are a class of medicines which are used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain, migraines and to manage abnormal heart rhythms. Beta blockers are also used after the first heart attack to prevent the heart from the second heart attack.

Metoprolol Tartrate is used without food. The Metoprolol Tartrate should be consumed on an empty stomach.
The typical dose of Metoprolol Tartrate for adults is 100-200 mg daily as a single dose in the morning, or in divided doses (morning and evening). The maximum dose for adult patients of Metoprolol Tartrate is 450 mg/day per day. This medicine is not known to be addictive or habit-forming.
This medicine is to be used for longer periods of time. The Metoprolol Tartrate should be taken for long-term to treat chestpain associated with decreased blood flow to heart (angina pectoris).
Discuss with your doctor if your condition persists or worsens or if you develop new symptoms. Discuss with your doctor if swelling of the face, swelling of the throat, swelling of the lips, swelling of the tongue, itching, difficulty in breathing, feel weak, feel dizzy, slow heart rate, and slow blood pressure. If you have issues with the health of your liver, a low dose of Metoprolol Tartrate is recommended in patients with abnormal functioning of the liver. Consult with your doctor before stopping the use of Metoprolol Tartrate.
Your doctor may prescribe a lower starting dose of this medicine to understand the impact on the body. Please follow your doctor’s recommendations.
When stopping this medicine, some patients may experience withdrawal symptoms like high blood pressure, and abnormal heart rhythm. You may need to taper (gradually decrease) the dose of this medicine when stopping.
The safety and effectiveness of using Metoprolol Tartrate Tablet in children has not been established. There is no efficacy study of Metoprolol Tartrate established for use in children.
To decrease the possibility of side-effects, you might be recommended to use the extended-release form of this medicine by your doctor. The extended-release medicine helps in maintaining a steady level of the medicine in your body for a longer period of time. Do not crush or chew the medicine, unless indicated on the package or by your doctor.
The injection form of the medicine may be used on the vein. Three Metoprolol Tartrate injections of dose 5 mg should be given at intervals of 2 minutes into the vein.
