Pharmacology
DESCRIPTION
A brand of Promethazine Hydrochloride. Promethazine is a Histamine H1- receptor antagonist.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Promethazine is a Phenothiazine derivative with the action and uses of the anti-histamine which include sedation, anti-motion sickness, antiemetic and anti-cholinergic actions. It acts by the competitive reversible blockage of histamine at receptor sites tissues.
Indications
– Perennial and Seasonal rhinitis
– Vasomotor rhinitis
– Prevention and control of nausea and vomiting
– Sedation in both children and adults as well as relief of apprehension and production of light sleep from which the patient can be easily aroused.
– Active and prophylactic treatment of motion sickness.
Contra-indications: MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitor (MOAI) therapy.
Precautions/Warnings
PRECAUTIONS
Rophegan should not be given to premature infants or neonates. It should be used with care in patients with narrow angle glaucoma, urinary retention and prostatic hypertrophy, hepatic and cardiovascular disorders.

It may cause drowsiness.

Dosage & Administration
Each 5 mL measure contains 5 mg promethazine Hydrochloride.
As an antihistamine in allergy:
Children 2 – 5 years 5 mL – 15 mL measure daily
Children 6 – 10 years 10 mL – 25 mL measure daily
In cases where two doses in 24 hours are required, the lower amount stated should be given.
